When you are ready to make the decision to pursue opportunities in the U.S., Passport USA will help you navigate the complex credentialing, licensing, immigration and employment issues.
Getting Started
First, you should apply online (click Application or Send Resume), or apply directly by calling or e-mailing Passport USA (click Contact Us). If you meet the basic requirements for education, credentialing, clinical experience and English proficiency, you can get started now. Passport USA will explain the process in detail and you will provide us with some information on your interest and experience so we can be confident to meet your needs.
Although the specifics may vary depending upon your credentials and your geographic and occupational preferences, we give you all the details of the recruitment process. Generally, the process works something like this:
- Apply to Passport USA Click on Application.
- Send a detailed resume.
- Complete a skills checklist. Once we have a completed application and resume, we will send you a link to complete our skills checklist online.
- INTERVIEW. After you have completed these first three steps, one of our experienced recruiters will conduct an interview by phone.
- Pass the English proficiency exam (e.g., TOEFL-IBT) unless if you have not done so alrready or you are exempt of this requirement.
- Complete the credentialing and VisaScreen process (e.g., FCCPT Type One), licensure application and review program.
- Select an assignment that is right for you. The placement you select will be a welcoming environment. Passport USA works with a core group of clients that are committed to successfully acclimating foreign trained therapists into their facilities.
- Once you have passed TOEFL and have secured an FCCPT Type One certificate, the next steps may vary. Depending upon the situation, you may interview by phone with a prospective clinical partner facility, we may file your visa in advance of selection by a specific clinical partner, or you may need to study and prepare to take the NPTE exam in advance of client interviews or visa filing.
- Take the NPTE examination. We process your state licensure application and when the timing is optimal for you to take the exam, we will help you secure an ATT at the appropriate exam location to take the NPTE exam. Certain clients will have Internship / Pre-NPTE employment programs in which qualifying therapists receive an H1-B visa and begin working as a physical therapist, under the supervision of a U.S. PT, prior to taking their NPTE exam. Then, upon passing the NPTE exam, these therapists commence their initial assignment period. Check with your recruiter to get the details of this program option.
- Become a U.S. licensed therapist.
- Apply and Receive Your Visa. Once approved and issued through the appropriate U.S. Consulate, you will be ready to travel to the U.S. to begin your employment.
- Passport USA and your assigned client facility will assist you in securing your accommodations, and acclimating to living and working in the United States of America.
