Hi. My name is Katelyn, and I'm an international deployment advocate here at Health Carousel. In this series, we are helping you prepare for your move to the United States.

Today, we'll be talking about packing and notifying relevant parties.

For part one of this video, we'll be talking about packing and organizing your personal belongings.

Moving to a new country such as the United States is a significant life event that requires careful planning and organization.

This overview outlines key steps for preparing for your move, including packing and organizing your personal belongings, notifying relevant parties, and arranging for mail forwarding.

Start by creating an inventory of your belongings. Categorize items by type and importance. Decide what to keep, donate, sell, or discard. Reducing unnecessary items can simplify your move.

Keep important documents, valuables, and essentials such as passport, IDs, medical records, and medication in a secure and easily accessible place. Use proper packing materials to protect fragile items like glassware, electronics, and artwork Consider carrying valuable or sentimental items with you rather than packing them with the rest of your belongings.

Part two covers notifying relevant parties prior to your deployment to the United States.

Inform important parties of your change of address, including government agencies, financial institutions, and subscription services.

You might wanna notify your bank and your credit card companies and investment accounts of your upcoming move. You also would want to update your billing and shipping address for online purchases.

Notify relevant government agencies such as the tax authorities and immigration offices of your new address. Ensure compliance with the visa and residency requirements. Inform your healthcare providers and insurance company of your move to ensure continuity of care and coverage until your first day of work here in the United States.

Cancel or transfer utility services at your current residence and set up new services in your new location. This can include things like internet and cable or even subscriptions that may get sent to your home.

Inform important contacts such as friends, family, and professional networks of your new address to ensure they have your updated contact information.

Preparing for an international move to the United States requires meticulous planning and attention to detail. By packing and organizing your belongings efficiently and notifying relevant parties of your change of address, you can help ensure a smoother transition and settle into your new home more comfortably.
