Understanding Your Annual CEU Allowance

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are an essential part of maintaining professional competence and staying updated in the rapidly evolving field of healthcare. At Health Carousel International, we understand the importance of continuing education, which is why we offer an annual CEU allowance to support your ongoing learning journey.

CEU Allowance Benefits:

Our CEU allowance is designed to empower you to prioritize your professional development without financial constraints.

In addition to the allowance, we provide free access to HealthStream, a comprehensive learning management system. Here, you'll find an extensive library of courses covering a diverse array of healthcare topics, from mandatory compliance training and patient safety protocols to specialized nursing skills and continuing education. We encourage you to leverage this invaluable resource to fulfill your CEU requirements and enhance your professional expertise.

It's essential to note that the CEU allowance is renewed annually, with the 2024 allocation set at $400. Please ensure you utilize this allowance before the end of each calendar year, as it does not carry over.

What is Covered in the CEU Allowance?

Our CEU allowance covers a variety of expenses related to your professional development, including:

  • Healthcare-associated CEU course completion: You can use your allowance to cover the costs of completing CEU courses directly related to healthcare. A certificate of completion is required.
  • Work-related required medicals: To ensure reimbursement, remember to submit your medical results along with proof of purchase. Please adhere to the compliance due date, as reimbursement will be delayed if submissions are made before results are received. The reimbursement will be void if the compliance due date is not met.
  • Driving lessons or school completion: Provide a completion letter from the driving school to qualify for reimbursement.
  • Membership fees for nursing associations or state healthcare professional associations: Reimbursement for membership fees requires proof of completion, which can include association CEU completion certificates, webinar attendance sheets, or even a short 250-word essay on journal review.
Did you know nurses in the Clinical Ladder Program receive FREE memberships to different nursing associations that do not come out of the CEU allowance? Learn more about the Clinical Ladder Program here.
  • Licensure renewal in your home state: You can use your allowance to cover the costs of renewing your license in your home state. A renewal receipt is required.

Additionally, your allowance can also be used for the following items, but reimbursement is capped at $200:

  • Scrubs: An itemized receipt is required to qualify for reimbursement.
  • Professional-related equipment: An itemized receipt is required to qualify for reimbursement.
  • Professional-related books: You can use part of your allowance to purchase books and other educational materials relevant to your field. A 250-word essay explaining what you learned is required in place of a certificate of completion.
How Do I Use My Allowance?

To utilize your CEU allowance, simply follow these steps:

  1. Purchase the qualifying items or complete the required courses upfront.
  2. Keep itemized receipts and course completion certificates handy to be included in your expense report.
  3. Submit an expense report along with the necessary documentation within 90 days of the completion date.

Once all required items are submitted, the funds will pull from your available CEU bank and be paid out within 3 pay periods. CEU banks close on the last day of the calendar year.
