PassportUSA RN Tanya Grace Expedites Journey to the USA

Chances are you have a relative or family friend that has been working in the USA as a nurse for some time. They probably inspired you to become a nurse to help patients and as a means to achieve your #AmericanDream. Most likely they also gave you advice on how to become a USRN. Their advice probably sounded something like this:

1. Do well in nursing school.
2. Graduate and pass the local board exam.
3. Get to work as a staff RN anywhere you can.
4. While working, study for and pass the NCLEX and IELTS exams.

Tanya Grace's USRN Career Began Much Sooner

Meet Tanya Grace, who joined the ASPIRE program and has been working as a USRN in Virginia since April 2019. Under the traditional pathway outlined above, she would not have even been able to interview with an agency until she had at least two years of experience after graduating from nursing school. That would have been in 2017. Yet, through the PassportUSA ASPIRE program, Tanya Grace was able to interview with us in 2016, with one year of nursing experience!We spoke with Tanya Grace regarding her experiences and here is what she shared:

How did you hear about the ASPIRE program?

"I heard about the ASPIRE program from my aunt in the Philippines. My aunt applied to PassportUSA and told me about the assistance that PassportUSA provides to process visas."

How soon after graduation did you join the ASPIRE program?

"I joined the ASPIRE program one year after I graduated nursing school in the Philippines."

Did you know agencies were helping new graduates to pass NCLEX?

"Yes I did know about them, but my heart was set on signing the contract with PassportUSA because of my aunt's positive referral."

What perks made you decide to join the ASPIRE program?

"I particularly like that the ASPIRE program offers NCLEX and IELTS study resources and that they will help you process your visa."

Would you recommend the ASPIRE program to other recent Filipino nursing graduates?

Do you know anyone else that was or is currently in the ASPIRE program?

"Yes, my friend and I both applied together to the ASPIRE program and we are both working in the U.S. now."

Why did you choose to work in the U.S.?

"My family motivated me and inspired me to pursue my American dream. They had high hopes of me advancing my nursing career in the U.S. and I am glad to fulfill that for them and for myself."

What do you hope to accomplish in your U.S. nursing career within five years?

"In five years, I hope to be in the OR unit and attain specialty certifications to enhance my skills."

What are three traits of a good U.S. nurse?

"I believe that good U.S. nurses are honest, hardworking, and patient with everything."

Who motivates you currently to continue being a spectacular U.S. nurse?

"My family definitely motivates me to keep being a spectacular U.S. nurse. I just want to treat my patients the same way I would want my family to be treated if they are ever in the hospital. When you have that mentality, you are a more caring nurse."

How has your and your family's life changed for the better now that you've been working as a U.S. nurse?

"I was able to help fund my sister's college tuition in the Philippines. If I was still in the Philippines, my earnings could barely support myself. Now that I am working in the U.S., I am able to buy nicer things for myself and for my family that is still back in the Philippines."

What advice do you have for candidates that are thinking about joining the program?
