What Is the Visa Bulletin?
If you're new to the process, the Visa Bulletin shows the availability of immigrant visas (green cards) for each visa category and country of chargeability. Your priority date is the day your I-140 petition was received by USCIS, and your visa cannot be processed until that date becomes “current” on the bulletin.
What You Should Do While You Wait
Even if your priority date isn’t yet current, there are many productive steps you can take to stay prepared and speed up the process once your turn arrives:
✅ Prepare Your DS-260 Application
If you're eligible to move forward soon, start reviewing the application. Be ready with your:
- Employment history
- Address history
- Family and dependent details
✅ Gather Key Documents
Start collecting:
- Birth certificates
- Police clearances
- Valid passport
- Academic and licensure credentials
✅ Stay Current With Your English Exam
Even if you’ve passed, continue practicing English. This boosts your confidence for interviews and helps with bedside communication once in the US.
✅ Build and Maintain Clinical Experience
Make sure you're gaining recent nursing experience, as many US hospitals require active bedside work for placement.
The Bottom Line: Your Patience Will Pay Off
While retrogression has delayed many nurses’ journeys, it is a normal part of the immigration process. The good news is that we’re now seeing movement. If your priority date is getting close, your time to shine is coming soon.
