Trails for every level of hiker are here, with the Cheat Lake Park and Trail being one of the most accessible. This 4.5-mile trail is along the shoreline and has a nature viewing area, plus a children's playground. Hikers who want a challenge can visit the Snake Hill Wildlife Management Area, a large tract of rolling terrain and rocky cliffs that form incredible overlooks.  Trails here range from 3.5 to 7.5 miles and will reward you with awe-inspiring sights. Trails are also present at the Core Arboretum, a 91-acre park open dawn to dusk with free admission. More than 150 species of plants and shrubs are here, plus you can spot birds and other wildlife. Another spot for nature lovers is the West Virginia Botanic Garden. A sprawling 85-acre preserve with 4.5 miles of trails and nine gardens, the West Virginia Botanic Garden is serene and peaceful for periods of reflection.

Dorsey's Park is located outside the downtown area and is a cliffside park perched almost 600 feet about the forest. The public park offers an interactive playground and disc golf course, plus spectacular views of Morgantown. Marilla Park is the spot for cooling off in the warm days, as it's home to 2 playgrounds, a large outdoor pool, 2 water slides, and a small beach area for wading.
