2026 Health Carousel Hall of Fame Inductee: David M., RN

David M.’s journey with Health Carousel’s PassportUSA program is rooted in purpose, service, and steady leadership. Originally from Uganda and specializing in Medical-Surgical nursing, David’s career reflects what it means to grow with intention while lifting others along the way.

His Hall of Fame recognition honors not just professional excellence, but the impact he continues to make on patients, colleagues, and fellow international healthcare professionals navigating life and work in the United States.

A Purpose-Driven Path to Healthcare

Long before beginning his U.S. nursing career, David felt drawn to service-oriented work. His motivation has always been grounded in making a meaningful difference during the most vulnerable moments of people’s lives. That desire for impact, combined with a passion for problem-solving, decisiveness, and lifelong learning, ultimately led him into healthcare.

For David, nursing is not routine work. It is dynamic, demanding, and deeply human—an environment where no two days or patients are the same. This challenge is exactly what continues to motivate him.

Building a Career Through PassportUSA

David joined Health Carousel after learning about the organization through an instructor in 2017. While many of the early success stories he encountered featured nurses from other regions, David chose to take the next step after a thorough and transparent conversation with his International Program Associate.

That decision proved to be pivotal.

Through PassportUSA, David transitioned into the U.S. healthcare system with clarity, structure, and support. He credits the program’s clear expectations, orientation resources, and ongoing guidance as essential to navigating a complex transition—both professionally and personally.

Today, he considers partnering with Health Carousel one of the most important decisions of his life.

From Transition to Leadership

David began his first assignment in August 2022. What started as a staff nurse role quickly evolved.

Midway through his assignment, David was promoted to Clinical Supervisor—recognition of his calm leadership style, strong clinical judgment, and ability to support others under pressure. When the assignment ended, the facility requested that he stay, transforming what was initially a contract into a long-term role built on trust.

In leadership, David is known for listening first. Nurses seek him out for guidance, support, and advocacy. His approach ensures that concerns are heard, solutions are thoughtful, and patient care remains the priority.

Advocacy Inside and Outside the Facility

David’s influence extends beyond his unit.

  • He actively speaks up during facility town halls, encouraging open dialogue and shared accountability.
  • His advocacy has helped foster an environment where other nurses feel empowered to voice concerns and contribute ideas.
  • Feedback shared through his leadership has led to real improvements in nurse experience and patient care.

Outside the hospital, David has been a trusted presence for PassportUSA nurses arriving in the U.S. As an Arrival Ambassador, he volunteered his time to help new healthcare professionals adjust to a new country, workplace, and healthcare system—drawing from his own experience to provide reassurance and practical guidance.

Growth That Continues

While working full time, David completed his bachelor’s degree and is currently pursuing his master’s degree. His commitment to professional development reflects a belief that excellent patient care requires continuous learning, adaptability, and openness to evidence-based practice.

He also emphasizes the importance of self-advocacy, collaboration, and maintaining balance—encouraging healthcare professionals to seek support, ask questions, and make space for rest and fulfillment outside of work.

What This Recognition Means

David’s Hall of Fame induction is deeply personal.

It affirms that his contributions—to patients, colleagues, and the broader healthcare community—are seen and valued. It reinforces his commitment to excellence and serves as a reminder that leadership is built through consistency, humility, and service.

Most importantly, David hopes his journey will inspire other healthcare professionals—especially those partnering with Health Carousel—to remain committed to their goals and confident in their decision to pursue their U.S. healthcare careers.

A Legacy of Impact

David’s story represents what the Health Carousel Hall of Fame stands for:

  • Leadership grounded in empathy
  • Advocacy that leads to meaningful change
  • A commitment to supporting others through every stage of their journey

We are proud to recognize David M. as a Health Carousel Hall of Fame inductee and grateful for the example he continues to set for the global healthcare community.

“David’s calm approach and ability to see situations from every angle set him apart. He is a problem solver, a trusted leader, and someone nurses rely on both inside and outside the facility.”
