Albany is centrally located to several major cities full of activities for a fun weekend. It's only 2 hours to Atlanta, Georgia, the state capital, a great family-friendly destination. Atlanta, Georgia is home to the Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the United States, and has whales, sharks, and thousands of other aquatic species. World of Coke is a family-friendly spot and lets you discover the history of Coca-Cola, plus taste Coke from all over the world. The rich arts and culture scene in Albany won’t fail to entertain anyone. Offering free admission every day, Albany Museum of Art is a must-visit for art lovers. The facility has an impressive collection of 19th-20th-century art from North American and Europe. Several galleries in the museum feature rotating exhibits of national and local artists. The Thronateeska Heritage Center is another great museum in Albany, and features three destinations in one: a history museum, a science museum, a HD dome planetarium at its campus, all perfect for a family day out.

Albany's performing arts include live theatre, music, and various live performances throughout the year. Children age 1 to 14 have a safe space to play at the Turtle Grove Play Park, which includes a rock-climbing wall, a dinosaur dig exhibit, and several playground structures. For both outdoor and indoor fun, All American Fun Park has a range of activities for all ages with two mini-golf courses, laser tag, a roller coaster simulator, and go-karts. Indoor attractions include bumper cars, bowling, and a virtual reality arena.

The South is known for quite a bit of delicious food, and Albany is a great place for food lovers. Harvest Moon is a local favorite for custom pizza pies such as the Purple Pie with eggplant and the Roasted Roaster with Applewood bacon. For good old fashioned Southern cooking, head to Pearly's Famous Country Cooking for some of their famous biscuit sandwiches, breakfast platters, and entrees. For BBQ and seafood, the perfect spot is Blackbeard's B & B Bar-B-Que, a rustic space known for its fried catfish, along with other seafood dishes, steak, and chicken.
