Muncie Community School is the local public school district and has 6 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 1 high school, and an alternative program. As the community is close to Ball State University, the district tries to offer a diverse and challenging curriculum. Some highlights of Muncie Community Schools include an immersive dual-language program and an environmental learning center for all students. The Adventure Environmental Learning Center, also known as Camp Adventure, has programs in sciences and recreation for the district’s students. Muncie Central High School is ranked 224th in Indiana and among the top 9,000 schools by U.S. News and World Report. Muncie is also home to the independently-run Burris Laboratory School, a K-12 school that’s an extension of Ball State. This school allows prospective teachers to a chance to observe and practice in a classroom. Burris is independent of the school district and students are admitted via a lottery. Ball State’s campus also has the specialty high school Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities.
