Emelyn is one of our wonderful RNs currently assigned in Iowa. She is from the Philippines and has been in the healthcare field for 13 years and with PassportUSA for over 2 years!Emelyn was nominated for RN of the Month by the facility's Director of Med-Surg, "Emelyn is committed to increasing patient satisfaction scores on every single patient and every single encounter. She does it intentionally and purposefully. She has been featured on one of our hospital posters for "Showing Caring Nonverbally". Emelyn has specifically been named by patients on patient satisfaction surveys. Because of her desire and passion for quality improvement, she was selected to be on a committee to help improve patient satisfaction through bedside reporting and hourly rounding. She has put a lot of time into this and helping educate her coworkers to improve patient satisfaction. She is also a team player, willing to help her coworkers when needed, and trade shifts."Learn a little more about PassportUSA's award-winning RN, Emelyn, by reading her responses below! What drew you to Health Carousel? "I was drawn to Carousel's persistence, professionalism, and highly organized processes. They provided me with the encouragement to complete the entire process. They kept in touch with me so I could comply with the requirements on time. Health Carousel provided me with a super clear roadmap so I knew where I was in the process, what needed to be done, and when it was due."What do you like most about working with our client? "The healthcare facility I am working in was a fit to what I was looking for in a workplace. We work as a team. We always have each other's back. Our administration listens, supports, and provides opportunities to grow. I'm a Patient Experience Committee member and we recently launched a project to enhance patient experience, not only in the MS unit, but in other departments as well. Our patients are appreciative and respectful. I especially like our Language of Caring courses. It not only impact our patients' lives but our personal lives too."What do you like to do outside of work? "I love traveling. It widens life perspectives. I find lessons from traveling that I am not able to find by merely reading a book. I bring home experiences that helps me grow as a person. I also love to spend time with my husband either cooking at home or going to thrift stores or playing with our cat."What is your favorite American food? "My favorite American food is pizza!"What do you love most about being a RN? "What I love most about being a RN is the opportunity to be with patients and their families at their most vulnerable points. I used to teach nursing, but practicing bedside is my playground. By practicing bedside, I perform skills and in order to perfect skills, practicing them is the only way to do so."Tell us something unique about you! "I am a crazy cat lady. I have a couple cats in the Philippines and I have a female grey tabby rescue cat here in the U.S. Another interesting fact about me is that I used to work as a private duty nurse in Saudi Arabia and one of the perks is that we traveled to many places. We stayed half a month in Hong Kong and another half month in Instanbul. I also visited Milan, Geneva, London, and Paris. I utilize my international nursing experience when treating every patient."What is your favorite quote? "Never live up to others' expectations, instead, exceed them!"If you are not a current PassportUSA employee, simply register with us today and we'll get your journey to the USA underway!
