Guada has dedicated her entire life to helping others, and since joining the PassportUSA program, Guada has been able to live out her dream of working as a nurse in the United States.

In fact, Guada has been one of PassportUSA’s shining examples for what it hopes to achieve for all global medical professionals who wish to join.

Guada’s first assignment after arriving in the US was in Louisiana, where she made a daily impact on her patient’s lives. Not long after, she also became one of PassportUSA’s Global Ambassadors. In this role, Guada has helped spread PassportUSA’s mission of recruiting talented medical professionals from around the world.

Currently practicing in South Dakota, Guada continues to make an impression on everyone she meets. Her compassion, attentiveness to detail, and positive demeanor have made her a pleasure to work with.

Both her managers and patients have sung her praises, which is why PassportUSA is about to surprise her a DAISY Award.

The DAISY Award is a recognition program for extraordinary nurses and is a way to honor the incredible work nurses do for their patients and their families every day. Guada is a PCU nurse and is being recognized for her compassion and mentorship.

She was nominated by her Department Manager:

“Guada has proven to be a highly engaged nursing professional and mentor in our department and organization. She strives for excellence daily while working with her patients and colleagues. She is always willing to step in and help her colleagues on and off the floor...Guada serves as an informal mentor to nurses in and out of our department. She invests in others outside of work by providing homemade meals and companionship...she serves as an Ambassador for PassportUSA and she is passionate about improving the experience of international nurses as they transition to nursing practice in the U.S.”

“I couldn’t think of anyone that deserves the DAISY award more than Guada. She is probably the most compassionate person I have ever met in my life,” said Katie, the Senior VP of International Operations at PassportUSA.

Guada herself was stunned by the recognition but felt as if it was the “icing on the cake,” considering all the praise she has received from her patients, managers, and PassportUSA executives. However, with or without the award, Guada noted that she will always “continue doing what I do because I love doing it.”

About The DAISY Foundation

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The care Patrick and his family received from Nurses while he was ill inspired the creation of The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses, an evidenced-based means of providing Nurse recognition and thanking Nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families. In addition to the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, the Foundation expresses gratitude to the nursing profession internationally in nearly 4,500 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing with recognition of direct care Nurses, Nurse-led Teams, Nurse Leaders, Nursing Faculty, Nursing Students, Lifetime Achievement in Nursing and through the J. Patrick Barnes Grants for Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Projects and Medical Mission Grants. More information is available at
