Each month, our International Employee Supervisor Team selects one or two spectacular A-players on assignment to showcase their journey. We asked our healthcare professional to share his or her story of perseverance, adjustment, and professional growth.Kerobin is from the Philippines and is currently working at a client facility in Maine. She has been working in her field for 7 years and has been with PassportUSA for almost one year. Why did you decide to become a registered nurse? "I decided to become a registered nurse because I want to make a difference in the lives of those in need."Before coming to the U.S., where did you practice your profession? "In the Philippines, I did community nursing. In Jordan, I worked in the medical-surgical ward for three years. I worked in the ER in Saudi Arabia for a year. I immigrated to Canada but I didn’t immediately pursue my nursing career there because I had two toddlers. Then I worked in home health before coming to the U.S."Why did you want to come to the U.S.? "I wanted to pay tribute to my dad who died 7 years ago by fulfilling his American Dream. I plan to further my career in the psychiatry department someday soon for my personal dream."How did you first hear of PassportUSA? "I saw their Facebook page and followed it. I inquired about their program through email, and they responded promptly with all of the answers I needed. I communicated with the office through calls and emails thereafter."How is your experience working with your PassportUSA International Employee Supervisor so far? "She is very supportive and kind. I believe that she is a vital support for me. Aside from being very knowledgeable and patient, she always answers my queries immediately."Would you recommend PassportUSA to other people and why? "There are a lot of things to be grateful for with PassportUSA. I will most likely recommend it to my friends because without PassportUSA's help, I wouldn’t have come this far."How does working in the U.S. differ from your healthcare career abroad? "Financially speaking, I was able to pay my outstanding bills in Canada within a few months of working in the U.S. My life changed significantly in the correctional nursing setting. My physical assessment skills were enhanced due to the volume of sick calls that I needed to attend to each day. Health education is much needed for incarcerated people. Part of my responsibility is to support them as they transition from prison to community set-up."What is your favorite inspirational quote? "You don’t drown by falling in the water; You drown by staying there." -Edwin Louis Cole, American minister
