Frequently Asked Questions

I've already completed some graduate-level nursing courses, how does this affect me?

This is not a tuition reimbursement program, and we do not reimburse for educational costs you have already incurred. However, when applying for admission to our Education Partner you may receive credits for coursework completed elsewhere. If this is the case, Health Carousel may, on a case-by-case basis and at its own discretion, adjust the hours duration of program.

How does the university admissions process work?

Even though your credentials have been evaluated to determine you meet the professional standards to work as an RN in the U.S. though the VisaScreen process, your nursing school coursework will need to be evaluated by a NACES member credential evaluation service to ensure they meet the academic standards for admissions into an advanced nursing degree program. You will not be charged for this evaluation or for the application and in most cases Health Carousel will have the necessary documents on file to submit for evaluation.

Do I get paid time off and other benefits?

Yes. You accrue paid time off for each hour worked up to 120 hours annually. You will also keep all the other Health Carousel benefits you received on your initial US assignment including: (1) top-rated health and life insurance for you and your family; (2) voluntary dental and vision Insurance; (3) 401(k) retirement savings plan with 50% company match on each dollar you contribute up to the first 6% of your eligible compensation; and more.

When do programs start?

You can begin the Work-Study program throughout the year with Chamberlain classes beginning every 8 weeks. You may register to begin anytime after your assignment start date, but within three months of starting.

Can I take a break from academic studies?

Nurse-Scholars may take up to one semester off from their studies with approval from Health Carousel.

What if I choose to or need to leave the program?

Health Carousel will stop paying for your graduate degree. We will not ask for any tuition payments to be returned to us. If you leave the program within the first six months of assignment start you will owe the relocation expenses paid for by Health Carousel.

Do I receive any additional pay or bonuses?

At the time you graduate with your degree, and if Health Carousel is still your employer, you will receive a Graduation Bonus of $5,000. And finally, once you complete your agreed upon program hours you will receive a Capstone Bonus of up to $15,000.** Capstone Bonus amounts vary by degree program.

Do you assist with relocation expenses?

Health Carousel will reimburse for relocation expenses up to $5,000 with acceptable receipts. Qualified relocation expenses will be itemized on your assignment confirmation letter.

How much will I earn?

All of our Nurse Scholar opportunities pay an hourly wage comparable to nurses employed directly by the assigned healthcare organization with similar lengths of U.S. RN experience. You’ll be eligible for the same shift differentials and overtime pay as nurses directly employed at the facility.

What is the duration of the program?

The duration of the program varies whether you choose an MSN specialty track or Doctor of Nursing Practice, owing to the differences in total credit hours of each degree program. All hours worked count toward program length of 5,200 hours for MSN and 6,240 for DNP.

Who is my employer?

Health Carousel will be your employer.

Who is a good fit for this program?

You may be a good fit for this program if you have a desire to advance your education, do not wish to convert to direct employment at your current assignment locations, and desire to earn a graduate or postgraduate degree in nursing.
