Our client, Wellpath, provides healthcare within a correctional facility in Warren, Maine. You may not be familiar with the role of nurses in correctional healthcare, but the opportunity here is similar to working in a long-term care facility or a nursing home. Duties involve primarily medication administration, acute care assessment, wound care and other general nursing tasks. Warren is a town located in Maine and consists of the villages East Warren, Warren, and South Warren. It straddles both sides of the St. Georges River and is around 20 minutes away from Camden, Maine; Rockland, Maine; and Rockport, Maine. Warren and the surrounding region are growing steadily. The public school district in Warren is Regional School Unit 40. There are 5 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school in the district. An alternative middle school with hands-on learning is also available. District students enjoy a low student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1 and the schools believe in using technology to their advantage. Students in the high school have access to Chromebooks on a 1:1 base and there are Chromebook and Apple devices available in-classroom for elementary students. Middle school students are allowed to check out devices for a night with permission. The district is full of committed dedicated and knowledgeable students who are ready for the rigors of the workforce and college. They also recognize exceptional learners and offer Advanced Placement and Gifted classes. The high school is ranked 58th in the state by U.S. News and World Report’s Best U.S. High Schools and among the top 10,000 in the country. There are no private schools located in Warren however, Rockland, Maine is just 19 minutes away and has several private schools.

Warren and the surrounding area have a good selection of shopping options. Furniture, gifts, antiques, home decor, books, and more are available. TJMaxx, HomeGoods and other department stores are located in the area.

Arts and entertainment are also available in the region. The Strand in downtown Rockland, Maine features several options for live events and recent release movie screenings. Camden, Maine, just 20 minutes away, is the home of Camden Opera House, a place to see fantastic live operatic performances. Rockport, Maine, just 16 minutes away, is another great destination for culture. There you’ll find the Everyman Repertory Theatre, a community theatre with several productions throughout the year. Rockport is also the home of Bay Chamber Concerts, a series of concerts held throughout the year in a variety of venues around the region. As for museums, there are several options. Warren Historical Society Museum features local history while the Maine Lighthouse Museum has lighthouse artifacts. The Farnsworth Art Museum showcases work by prominent American artists while the Coastal Children’s Museum is the perfect place for young ones to learn about the diversity of Maine’s midcoast area. Rockland, Maine has the Center for Maine Contemporary Art and the Sail Power & Steam Museum. There’s also the Project Puffin Audubon Center, an education center devoted to the puffin and other Maine seabirds.

This beautiful region affords visitors and residents many exciting recreational opportunities. Payson Park is a quiet park with a playground, walking trail, and picnic area. North Pond in Warren is a popular place for canoeing and kayaking and Trolley Marsh Preserve will meet any hiker or nature lover’s needs. This 113-acre preserve features fields, young forests, wetlands, and other diverse terrains to explore. It’s great for birdwatching. There’s also Camden, Maine’s Merryspring Nature Center, a 66-acre paradise of birds, trails, and gardens. There’s a 10-acre arboretum, Nature Center, and gift shop.

Warren has a crime rate that is nearly 40% lower than the national average. Not only that, the region has experienced historically low crime rates over the last year. The overall crime rates in Maine have been on a decline for several years in a row.
