The public school system is the Rapides Parish School Board which is comprised of 27 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, and 11 high schools. The district includes magnet and Montessori schools to offer a well-rounded education to eager young learners. Schools have a low student-teacher ratio of 15 to 1 with nearly 70% of the students proficient in reading and math. A number of the schools offer free breakfast and lunch to their students to give students the nutrition they need for a busy school day. Students in grades 6-8 and 9-12 have the chance to participate in Rapides Academy for Advanced Academics and Virtual Learning. The grades 6-8 students will receive a challenging curriculum in a face-to-face environment designed to expand their horizons and give them a competitive edge as well as develop social skills. Students in grades 9-12 will be able to use the virtual learning program for online education.
