Festive floats feature bead-slinging riders during the famous parade and attendees are treated to plenty of live music, delicious food, and activities, including a Children’s Day. Even dogs get in the action with their own costumed paw-rade. Later in May, Lake Charles holds its Louisiana Pirate Festival, a 2 week-long celebration of all things pirate, including local legend Jean Lafitte. The event is packed with activities including a pirate reenactment, costume ball, storytelling, petting zoo, and a fireworks display. The rest of the year has just as many fun sights and sounds.
